How to Play Potion Solution

Potion Solution is a color-sorting puzzle set in a neon-lit high school chemistry classroom, played out on a row of test tubes standing on a wooden lab bench. Each move is two taps: tap a tube to pick it up as your pour source, then tap a second tube to pour into it.

A pour is only valid onto a tube that already shows the same color on top, or into a tube that's completely empty — the on-screen instructions put it plainly: "Tap a tube, then tap where to pour. One color per tube = solved!" A level is cleared the moment every non-empty tube holds a single color, filled to its four-unit capacity.

The run is 10 levels long, and every level uses tubes with the same four-unit capacity throughout. Difficulty climbs mainly through the number of colors in play and how many empty tubes you're given to work with, while the clock stretches from 40 seconds on the first level up to 120 seconds on the tenth.

Clearing the embedded first level brings up a "LEVEL 1 CLEAR!" overlay with LEVEL and FULLSCREEN buttons; tapping FULLSCREEN opens the next level in a new browser tab, while the original embedded tab resets to a fresh first level. Clearing a level quickly adds a time bonus and a speed bonus on top of the base score, and part of your remaining time carries over as bonus seconds on the next level's clock.

Tips & Strategy

Treat empty tubes as your only free move

Every level gives you just two or three completely empty tubes, and they're the only place you can pour any color at all. Spending one too early can lock you out of untangling a mixed tube later, so hold at least one empty in reserve until you can see a pour that actually separates colors instead of just shuffling them.

Look for a tube you can fully clear in one move

Since a pour only lands on a matching color or an empty tube, the fastest progress comes from spotting a tube where the top color has exactly one other tube it can stack onto. Clearing that tube down to empty hands you a second flexible slot for the harder color combinations later in the level.

A fast clear pays more than a slow one

Solving level 1 in five seconds banked a 35-second time bonus and a 450-point speed bonus on top of the base score, and level 2's eight-second clear added a 60-second bonus and 700 points — the reward for speed scales up as the levels get harder, and some of that leftover time even carries over onto the next level's clock.

The levels get harder mostly through color count

The tube count and time limit grow together as the run progresses, but the biggest jump in difficulty comes from adding colors — the first level uses just 2 colors with 2 spare tubes and a 40-second clock, while the tenth level packs in 7 colors, only 2 spares, and a full 120 seconds to work with.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Potion Solution free to play?

Yes. It runs directly in your browser with no download or account required.

How many levels does it have?

Ten. Every level uses tubes with the same four-unit capacity, and difficulty climbs mainly through the number of colors and the count of empty tubes you're given.

What's the actual rule for pouring?

You can only pour a tube's top color onto a matching color already on top of another tube, or into a tube that's completely empty.

How do I clear a level?

Every tube that isn't left empty needs to hold a single color, filled to its four-unit capacity.

Can I quit in the middle of a level?

Yes. The fullscreen view has a quit button that opens a confirmation asking "Quit the game? Progress will not be saved," with QUIT and CONTINUE options.

Does progress carry over between levels?

Some of your remaining time does. Clearing a level with time to spare adds bonus seconds to the following level's clock on top of the score bonus.
